The first talking picture is shown at the Palais. The largest crowd ever gathered in Werribee turn out to the screening of Mother’s Millions prompting theatre owners, the Wallace Mitchell family, to bring in extra seating to accommodate more than 1,000 eager patrons.
The Palais Theatre built in Station Street. Moving pictures had previously been screened at the Mechanics Institute. While this continued for some time, the purpose-built theatre soon made the old hall redundant for that purpose.
