Entry from the Port Phillip Gazette dated 22 May 1850, p. 417 declaring that "...a site has been fixed upon for a village at the undermentioned place... WYNDHAM, in the district of Port Phillip".
The Port Phillip Government Gazette [dated Wednesday 28 May 1850 p.423] announces that the town shall be named Wyndham, notwithstanding a local preference for the Aboriginal name of Werribee.
